Welcome to "These Fortunate Isles"
Most tourists arriving at one of the Canary Island’s airports are desperate to feel the sun on their faces after a tiring journey. They are loaded onto the tour operators’ coaches and driven at great speed to their idyllic beach resort or quiet rural retreat - many are not to be seen or heard of again until the morning of their return flight home.
Yet whilst our tourists are busy sunbathing, enjoying a drink on their balconies, sailing, swimming or snorkelling, the ‘real’ Canary Islands are here and ready to explore. The Canary Islander hopes to enlighten our many visitors about the real Canary Islands and why Christopher Columbus described them as “These Fortunate Isles”.
